PI GAMMA MU MOURNS LOSS OF DR. P. KAY ANDERSON

AndersonPatricia Kay Anderson
(1939-2017)
Dr. Patricia Kay Anderson (Kay) died at the age of 77 on October 3, 2017 in Temple, TX after a brave battle with cancer.  Anderson was the 11th International President of the Pi Gamma Mu Board of Trustees and was inducted into the Pi Gamma Mu Hall of Fame in 2011.  The Hall of Fame is Pi Gamma Mu's highest honor and was established to formally recognize some of the Society's leading volunteers, who truly poured their heart and soul into the organization.

Anderson was a Professor of Social Work at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, TX from 1975 through 2005.  She reactivated the Texas Zeta Chapter of Pi Gamma Mu at the University in 1977 and served as Chapter Faculty Sponsor until her retirement.  She was Pi Gamma Mu's Governor for Texas, Chancellor for the Southwestern Region, and Pi Gamma Mu's first female President from 1996 to 2002.  Other accomplishments included chairing the Texas Field Educators Consortium and membership in the National Association of Social Workers, the Academy of Certified Social Workers, and the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Belton, TX.

Anderson was born November 29, 1939 in Breckenridge, TX.  She graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1958 and from Mary Hardin Baylor College in 1963 with a BA in Religion and Sociology.  She obtained her Masters of Social Work degree from Tulane University in 1967.  She loved to learn and completed more graduate work at Texas Woman's University.  She spent most of her career as a member of the Social Work faculty at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor.  Her love and passion was teaching and mentoring students and impacting the lives of others through social work.

Anderson is preceded in death by her parents and is remembered fondly by many loving cousins, friends, and colleagues.  Memorial donations can be made to the University of Mary Hardin Baylor or the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Belton, TX.
