NATIONAL SERVICE PROJECT

Please join other chapters in the Pi Gamma Mu Service Project!

Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society in Social Sciences is proud to embrace Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within all national service projects. As an interdisciplinary social science honor society, students and professors are keenly aware of the myriad of social problems that exist in communities throughout the world, especially the unique problems facing our own individual communities. Considering diversity, equity, and inclusion, chapters interested in participating in this service project should choose an issue or project important to them in their unique social environment, campus setting, and community and create a service project around this initiative.

OUR INTERDISCIPLINARY NATURE

Pi Gamma Mu is interdisciplinary in nature.  In fact, it is the oldest and preeminent interdisciplinary social science honor society in the United States.  This enables Pi Gamma Mu members from various social science disciplines to learn from and work with each other.  By fostering connections and encouraging collaboration among the various social science disciplines, Pi Gamma Mu seeks to advance the social sciences as a whole.  Our interdisciplinary approach also allows Pi Gamma Mu Chapters to include students from a wide variety of majors, allowing for more interdisciplinary collaboration and for members to glean insights from their peers from a variety of disciplines.

ACHS MEMBERSHIP PROTECTS THE LEGITIMACY OF HONOR SOCIETIES

ACHSPi Gamma Mu is one of 64 member societies of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), which is the authority on standards and definitions for the honor society movement. ACHS has stepped up efforts to alert the higher education community to the standards of traditional honor societies. In contrast, some new so-called honor societies exist online and allow self-nomination, accepting fees with no questions asked. If in doubt about an organization, you can check out the ACHS Web site (www.achshonor.org) for the list of honor societies that are members.
