NATIONAL SERVICE PROJECT 
- FEATURING WAYNE STATE COLLEGE, NEBRASKA

Please join Wayne State College and other chapters in the Pi Gamma Mu National Service Project!

Chapters are working together to support veterans, the homeless, and animals in animal shelters. Chapters may choose to do one, two, or all three components of the service project.

Descriptions of the national service project are listed below. If you have any questions, please contact Allison G. S. Knox, Chancellor of the Southeast Region and point of contact for the Pi Gamma Mu Service Project initiative. [email protected].  Chapters are encouraged to email photos and descriptions of their participation in the National Service Project to [email protected] for inclusion in a future issue of the Pi Gamma Mu Newsletter.

NSPHomeless Box Drive - chapters contact an organization in support of the homeless and put together a donation box full of supplies the organization can use.  The supplies are donated to an organization in support of the homeless from September 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.

Veterans - chapters contact a Department of Veterans Affairs hospital and collect toiletries and soft cover books in support of the veterans. Supplies are donated to a Department of Veterans Affairs hospital from September 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.

Animals - chapters will contact an animal shelter in their area and will put together a donation box full of supplies the organization can use. The supplies are donated to an animal shelter from September 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.

The Nebraska Delta Chapter at Wayne State College participated in the national service project this spring.  The chapter accepted donated items for the Norfolk Rescue Mission, in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Through March 31, the chapter collected the following donated items for the project.  The photo shows some of the items donated.  Cash donations were also accepted and were delivered to the Mission along with donated items. 

  • Coffee and coffee creamer in containers
  • Razors, shaving cream, men’s deodorant
  • Large tinfoil pans (bigger than 9x13) for making lasagna
  • Drink mixes: tea, lemonade, Kool-Aid, etc.
  • Sugar or brown sugar (any size bag)
  • Non-stick cooking spray

Dr. Randy Bertolas, Professor and Chair of the History, Politics, and Geography Department, Lisa Nelson, MSE, Director of Service-Learning, and Dr. Jean Karlen, Professor Emerita and Service Learning Consultant, are the chapter co-sponsors.
