4TH ANNUAL INTERDISCIPLINARY UNDERGRADUATE SOCIAL SCIENCES RESEARCH CONFERENCE

The Georgia Rho chapter of Pi Gamma Mu will be hosting the 4th Annual Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Social Sciences Research Conference on October 26, 2018, on the campus of Reinhardt University in Waleska, Georgia. Undergraduate students are invited to apply to present their research in the social sciences at the half-day conference.

NEWS FROM THE WEST VIRGINIA IOTA CHAPTER

The West Virginia Iota Chapter of Pi Gamma Mu held a virtual initiation ceremony on Friday, August 17, 2018.  During the initiation ceremony, two members were awarded Pi Gamma Mu scholarship medals for their service to the chapter.

TEXAS ZETA CHAPTER HOLDS JOINT INDUCTION CEREMONY

The Texas Zeta Chapter at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB) held a joint induction ceremony with Phi Alpha Theta, the History Honor Society. At the ceremony, the new Provost, Dr. John Vassar, a historian, gave the keynote address. The chapter then surprised Dr. Vassar with an Honorary Membership in Pi Gamma Mu.

STUDENT PRESENTER LOOKS BACK ON THE 2017 TRIENNIAL INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION

Back in November 2017, I attended the Triennial International Convention of Pi Gamma Mu, the oldest interdisciplinary academic honor society in social sciences. I walked away with a few conclusions. First and foremost, it was plain to see that academic curiosity in the social sciences is alive and well in undergraduate universities.

CHAPTERS ATTEND ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE ASSOCIATION OF SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENTISTS

Faculty, students, and staff affiliated with Pi Gamma Mu at Grambling, Alcorn, and Southern Universities recently participated in the 83rd Annual Conference for the Association of Social and Behavioral Scientists, Inc. held in the city of music, Nashville, Tennessee in March of 2018. The theme for the conference was "Promoting Social Change through Building Resilience". 

CONGRATULATIONS, STAR CHAPTERS!

The Pi Gamma Mu Board of Trustees and staff wish to congratulate and thank the 2017-18 Star Chapters for their dedication and success in increasing their chapter's number of new initiates by 20% or more as compared to the 2016-17 academic year.  Join this elite group by increasing your chapter's membership in 2018-19!

The 2018-2019 academic year marks the third consecutive year that chapters throughout Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society in the Social Sciences have come together to participate in a Pi Gamma Mu-wide service project to serve their respective communities.

ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGE HONOR SOCIETIES

Pi Gamma Mu is one of 69 members of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), which is the authority on standards and definitions for the honor society movement. ACHS has stepped up efforts to alert the higher education community to the standards of traditional honor societies. In contrast, some new so-called honor societies exist only online and allow self-nomination, accepting fees with no questions asked. If in doubt about an organization, you can check out the ACHS website (www.achsnatl.org) for the list of honor societies that are members. 

CHANGE OF EMAIL ADDRESS

Pi Gamma Mu communicates with its lifetime members via email. Anytime your email address changes, such as after graduation or when you change jobs, please notify the Pi Gamma Mu office immediately. This will prevent your emails from being interrupted or discontinued. Simply email your new email address to [email protected] or go to our Web site (www.pigammamu.org) to change your address information.
