2024 TRIENNIAL INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION

The Pi Gamma Mu Convention Committee is thrilled to announce that the 2024 Pi Gamma Mu Triennial International Convention will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024, through Sunday, November 3, 2024, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Plan to join us in the City of Brotherly Love in 2024 to be a part of Pi Gamma Mu's centennial celebration!

2023-2024 SPEAKERS ANNOUNCED

Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society in Social Sciences is continuing its popular online Speaker Series for a second year. The 2023-2024 speakers will be James Wojtowicz of Rider University, Johanna Bishop of Wilmington University, Richard Greggory Johnson III of The University of San Francisco, and Steven Burkarth & Deirdre Condit of Virginia Commonwealth University.

CALL FOR FACULTY SPEAKERS

Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society in Social Sciences is continuing its popular online Speaker Series to spotlight the research interests and expertise of Pi Gamma Mu's chapter sponsors! The program will offer lectures from our chapter sponsors on topics of their choice to all Pi Gamma Mu members. The speaker series lectures will be offered via the Zoom online platform.

Lecture topics could include (but are not limited to) leadership, social equity, history, public policy, gerontology, economics, anthropology - or any other social science topic.

CALL FOR CHAPTER HISTORIES

In preparation for Pi Gamma Mu’s centennial celebration in 2024, we are updating the history of the Society. The last history update was completed in celebration of Pi Gamma Mu’s first 75 years and the time has come for another update with our 100th anniversary rapidly approaching.

The Pi Gamma Mu Alumni Corner was created by the Pi Gamma Mu Alumni Council so that Alumni could stay in touch with their updates, career activities, and key events in their lives. The Alumni Council would love to include your update in a future issue of the Pi Gamma Mu Newsletter.

PI GAMMA MU 2ND VICE PRESIDENT INVITED TO ATTEND A SHIP NAMING CEREMONY IN HONOR OF HARRIET TUBMAN

Pi Gamma Mu 2nd Vice President, Dr. Clara Small, was recently invited by The Secretary of the Navy, The Honorable Carlos Del Toro, to attend a Ship Naming Ceremony in honor of abolitionist and social activist Harriet Tubman (1822-1913). The ceremony took place on September 17, 2023 at the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center in Church Creek, MD.

PI GAMMA MU WELCOMES GRACE WHISENHANT, ITS NEWEST CHAPTER DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

Grace Whisenhant, a junior at Southwestern College, has been hired as Pi Gamma Mu's new Chapter Development Officer. Whisenhant started at Southwestern College (Winfield, KS) in the fall of 2022 with enough credits to qualify as a sophomore. Majoring in Psychology with a minor in Business, she plans to attend graduate school upon completion of her Bachelor's degree.

ACHS MEMBERSHIP PROTECTS THE LEGITIMACY OF HONOR SOCIETIES

Pi Gamma Mu is one of 67 member societies of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), which is the authority on standards and definitions for the honor society movement. ACHS has stepped up efforts to alert the higher education community to the standards of traditional honor societies. In contrast, some new so-called honor societies exist online and allow self-nomination, accepting fees with no questions asked. If in doubt about an organization, you can check out the ACHS Web site (www.achshonor.org) for the list of honor societies that are members.

CHANGE OF EMAIL ADDRESS

Pi Gamma Mu communicates with its lifetime members via email. Anytime your email address changes, such as after graduation or when you change jobs, please notify the Pi Gamma Mu office immediately. This will prevent your emails from being interrupted or discontinued.
